The Cohen Charitable Trust awards grants to charitable foundations of governmental agencies, educational institutions and I.R.S.-designated, Not-for-Profit, tax-exempt organizations for the betterment of our community. Grants are not made directly to individuals.

Grants are given according to the wishes outlined by Barton P. Cohen in establishing the Trust and under the guidance of the Executive Director, Mary Davidson Cohen.

Grants are given to organizations located in or for projects to be conducted within the City of Overland Park, KS, City or Unified Government of Kansas City, KS, Wyandotte County, KS, or Johnson County, KS, history grants locally and statewide for Kansas, or local grants with a Jewish theme as well as to the Jewish community worldwide. History grants including awards for the preservation of historic sites are disbursed locally and statewide within the regional area. Specific organizations were also stipulated including the UMKC Law Foundation, Kansas City Symphony and Nelson Gallery Foundation to be used for the purposes of those organizations.

Funds are awarded... under the guidelines established in Barton P. Cohen’s will under the leadership of the Trust’s Executive Director from money managed by Midwest Trust.
